A Three-Day Cape Town Foodie Itinerary

The Western Cape has one of the most diverse botanical kingdoms in the world.  Drawing inspiration from this rich ecosystem, local chefs are creating offbeat ways of linking the dining experience more intimately to the terroir.  In the Cape, passionate foodies can forage, graze, harvest, or just enjoy incredible food all sourced at the doorstep of the restaurant. The Cape offers genuine farm-to-table dining, a must for anyone who loves a synergy of sustainable food and jaw-dropping landscapes. We have designed a three-day sample itinerary highlighting the very best Cape foodie experiences.  Warning: Do not read on an empty stomach 😊

Day 1:

Explore the history and heritage of Cape Town, stopping for an artisanal coffee tasting at a local roaster who will explain the origins of each coffee variety and take you on a world coffee tour before presenting your perfectly creamy cappuccino.

After wandering the colourful streets of the Bo Kaap, do a brief cooking course with a local Cape Malay chef.  She will explain how to create a samoosa (a local deep-fried favourite) and share her secret bobotie recipe.

In the evening, enjoy a wine tasting and choose your favourites to pair with an award-winning 5-course tapas meal while soaking in the incredible views from Beau Constantia.

Day 2:

Head down to Cape Point for an unforgettable Coastal Food Foraging experience.  Your guide will reveal what is edible, how to harvest wild plants, and gather shellfish from tidal pools.  Finish off by learning how to cook these foraged ingredients in a cohesive (and delicious) meal.

In the late afternoon, your guide will take you to a Constantia wine farm where you will find a pop-up dining table set amidst the vineyards.  A sommelier from the sustainable farm will personally host your wine tasting experience and pair the wines with a delicious late lunch created with local ingredients.

Day 3:

Your guide will pack a breakfast of freshly baked pastries and home brewed coffee (or herbal tea) and you make an early trip to the top of Table Mountain.  Ideally arriving for sunrise, you ascend in the cable car while watching the city bowl light up at the base of the mountain.  Wander along the virtually flat mountaintop for incredible 360 degree views, then enjoy your light breakfast.

After the light breakfast, head down to a secret beach for a day of relaxing to the lulling sound of the waves crashing on the shore.  A happy surprise awaits you there – enjoy a styled picnic setting, complete with tables, cushions, and woven rug. Take your time swimming, sunbathing, or relaxing under the shade while slowly savouring a gourmet picnic.

In the afternoon, rest by the pool or read a good book, allowing your body and mind to digest the eating adventures of the past three days.
